The other afternoon I saw a wily little snookums sprinting across the street, alone and untethered, forging through road construction, speeding traffic and refuse. He looked like a beefed-up Chihuahua in build, but strangely, he had a coat like a tiger-striped pit bull.
I tried to capture him and return him to safety, but he was evasive and skittish. I learned from a man crossing the parking lot that the little pup belonged to someone who lives in a nearby apartment building and lets her dog “run” free in the city all the time.
I am a huge proponent of off-leash exercise and exploration, but only if it happens in a safe place like this new, fenced-in dog park in El Paso, Texas:
My sister, who sent me this photo, recently took her graying bit still-spry beagle Casey to El Paso’s Eastwood Park, which looks to be an awesome place outfitted with a doggie agility course! Sadly, no such place exists in Ashland, so I travel to safe, car-free spots in the state forest where my little Scoops can run free alongside me.

Well dog park is a good idea. But its not the dog i m worried about but the handlers that do not clean after their animals. So i hope the good citizens of el paso will be mindful and clean up after their dogs.
